(RTTNews) - Wednesday early morning, Callisto Pharmaceuticals Inc. (KAL PowerRating), a developer of new drug treatments for cancer, said that it would discuss its drug development pipeline and key results of recent clinical and research studies, with investment professionals at the Equities 55th Anniversary Conference, on April 21, at Yale Club in New York.

According to the company, two of its anticancer drug candidates are undergoing Phase I/IIa human clinical trials at many leading cancer research institutions. One of them is L-Annamycin, indicated for treatment of relapsed and refractory acute leukemias. The Company said that it is also running two clinical programs with its second drug candidate Atiprimod. One trial involves patients with multiple myeloma, and the second trial involves advanced cancer patients.

In addition to these trials, the company had recently announced its plans to initiate another Phase I/II clinical trial of Atiprimod specifically in carcinoid patients. The company initiated this study based on response in a patient with carcinoid cancer and encouraging data observed in the case of other patients suffering from the same cancer. Dr. Gary Jacob, CEO, would also discuss the company's proprietary drug candidate Guanilib, indicated for gastrointestinal diseases, at the conference. Guanilib, an orally deliverable compound, is designed to mimic a naturally-occurring hormone called uroguanylin, deficiency of which is supposed to be one of the primary reasons for the formation of polyps and inflammatory disorders like ulcerative colitis. KAL closed Tuesday's regular trading session at $1.31, down $0.02 on a volume of 119,900 shares.
